CHIROPODY
A chiropodist (more commonly called a podiatrist) is someone who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of foot conditions and, since 2005, the title can only be used by someone who is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council. This depends on successful completion of a recognised course of training and a commitment to continued professional education.
A chiropodist can help with the following;
- corns
- calluses
- verrucas
- skin infections
- skin disorders
- problem nails
- assistance with footware
- self care advice
- sports injury management
- sprains
- stress fractures
- Achilles problems
- orthotic devices/arch supports (see Orthotics> page)
- any foot problems associated with diabetes, arthritis and musculoskeletal problems
- foot posture related injuries such as ankle, shin, knee, low back pain
